Rubisco seems OK. Definitely very perky. I guess the test will be the state of her bedding when I clean her out tomorrow.
I've got a new obsession: Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. He is absolutely adorable and I want my own pet Brett-Holmes. Although he can go outside when he wants to shoot up/snort coke/chain smoke, thanks. ITV CatchUp is loaded with episodes and flatmate has a large number on DVD, so this may be my entertainment of choice over the next week or so.
Went to Hummus Bros with gang of friends, which was fun, although we've discovered probably the only two people in the world who don't like malabi. O_o In malabi news, I have all the ingredients needed to make malabi properly now, so when I can be bothered I will experiment.
This coming week I will be enjoying having the department to myself. Peace, space, calm. Beautiful.
Have bought electronic weighing scales, and from this have established that Rubisco is 147g, Sucrose is 69g and Quinine is 52g. Give or take depending on when they last went to the loo and how much they have in their cheek pouches!
I've finally succeeded in taking photos off my camera, so at some point in the not too distant future I might stick up a couple of photos of Brno, Vienna and other stuff. Digital photography has proven to be a marvellous invention. Being able to take 100 awful photos for the sake of getting 1 decent one, playing around, flash on, flash off, all without worrying about the cost...for someone like me who's not professional or even talented, that's absolutely wonderful.

Date: 21 Dec 2008 00:38 (UTC)It's a speciality at Hummus Bros - doesn't look entirely like in that photo as they do it quite solid in a mould like a jelly, then turn it out and drizzle it with date honey in all prettiful patterns. Goes down so well with customers that at one point they had to ration the number they would sell to a single customer in one day!
The recipe is really easy - just boil up milk and sugar, then add rice flour and a bit of cornflour and a dash of rosewater, pour into bowls and refridgerate, but not all recipes seemed to emphasise the rice flour, which appears to be rather crucial, and the amounts of ingredients and the amount of boiling are still things I'm working out!

It's not just for birds - just pop it straight in their drinking water and as well as getting the probiotics, you don't need to worry about getting too few vitamins from the different food, either.
Also, I recommend staying clear of the Harry Hamster. I bought the guinea pig version not too long ago and ended up with maggots all over my ceiling because it was infested (unsurprisingly, the guinea pigs wouldn't eat it!) My housemate has also had the same trouble with the rabbit version.
