What I don't get is why, given that he's already an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE to people who don't speak in longhand), he is made a Knight Bachelor rather than promoting him to Knight Commander (KBE) of the Emprie.
The answer might be because there are only allowed to be 900 or so KBEs at any one time and it's full, but that's no excuse. We need better organised chivalric orders, dammit.
