Abner's wedding.
So...
Futher to this post just over 5 years ago, this happened.
Getting there was straightforward except that I didn't bother to look at the list of trains properly when I was at Paddington, so got the slow train (1 hour 20) rather than the fast one (40 minutes). Still, I got to see the nice countryside and write a little of the fic that Kei talked me into. Then E's flatmate picked me up from the station. Along with
mdavison and two other people I hadn't met before, one of whom turned out to be a med student at Bart's, so we were able to share amusement over my Thursday experience!
Was great to see MD again and generally catch up a bit. And discovering that we both have very similar retro-phones, though mine doesn't as yet require yoghurt-pot-botching. *grin*
We found an Abner and Ushers outside the church, Abner looking very handsome in tailcoat and all! I needed a quick stop in the ladies' to change shoes (Doc Martens aren't so ideal for weddings, methinks, but anyone who wears open-toed shoes on public transport is just asking for PAIN, so I settled on travelling in DMs and changing into pretty sandals once I got there). Once arrived, there were various other CTS types (Pippin and Sam and Angy!), though I didn't see
tienelle and
chess till after the service. It was AMAZING seeing everyone again, though, as they all retain the wonderful essential them-ness that they possessed when I last saw them (which was probably in most cases at the CTS Christmas Party business in 2006).
E (or should I be calling her Frodo?) turned up looking stunning in her wedding dress and all gooey-happy, which was a joy to behold. She and Abner are extremely fuzzy-inducing and spent much of the service staring at each other in abject adoration and pretty much radiating happiness in all directions. :D :D :D :D :D Service was nice, with a rather fun and interesting sermon thingy. As has been commented, Abner remained impressively stationary throughout! And then we got to go out into the absolutely glorious sunshine for photos.
Then we toddled along to the reception, which was very efficiently organised with serving staff and lots and lots of water, which was good in the warm weather and for those of us who were just compulsively drinking loads of water. Food was omnomnomnom yummy, especially the chocolate cakey dessert thingy. Speeches were very fun and sweet. Most of us CTS types were together on one table so the conversation swung between Fourier Transforms and Taking the Hobbits to Isengard. :D
Ceilidh was good as well, always jolly stuff, and bouncing ensued. Got to dance in a group containing Angy, Sam and Pippin! :D I headed off before it got too late and some of E's cousins were kind enough to drop me at the station. So I was back home just after 11, which isn't too bad all things considered. Yay, in general!
