Don't you love how events escalate?
Our extractor hood has two lights in. Because the wiring's crap, the bulbs blow quite often and need replacing. Having recently bought new bulbs (which turn out to be the wrong fitting - I'd forgotten the hood didn't take bayonets), I decided to change the one that's been dead since Christmas. So I opened up the panel in which the bulb lives.
Only to discover that the panel, being on an extractor hood over a cooker, was covered in grease. So I took it to the sink and started cleaning it.
Only for the clip that holds the panel shut to fall out and roll down the sink. ARGH. Considering our sink has crap in AGAIN (*frowns at whoever last ate pasta*) I'm amazed it fitted. Anyway, I'd hoped it would just sit in the bottom of the trap and be rescuable...
So I decided to open up the U-bend trap in the hope of fishing it out. It wasn't in there. So I replaced the pipes.
But couldn't get the pipes to seal back up at the joints. It finally took me 4 attempts to get a decent seal. I don't think it leaks now. We'll have to see. In any case, the rubber washer doodahs are shot to hell and have no elasticity left and aren't even properly smooth all the way round.
How can changing a bulb turn into a minor plumbing operation?
Waah.
