Submitted!
30 March 2010 21:53Well, I submitted my thesis!
Thank you to everyone who helped with moral support and/or proofreading - I wouldn't have done it without you and you guys ROCK!!
Of course, submission itself is such an anticlimax - just a couple of forms, handing a memory stick to the admin person (yes, they check my thesis for plagiarism) and then walking away with an empty bag. It was further complicated/boringified by the fact that the Fees Department still had me down as owing tuition fees despite that, as a writing-up status student, I don't pay them! So there was a 5 minute phonecall from Research Degrees to Fees to get my name unflagged in the database... Sigh.
So now I get to rest.
Resting is good.
I actually cannot remember how to turn off my brain any more. This may be a problem!
There are still many more hurdles between now and me being a Dr Eni-bee, namely the viva, the corrections, rebinding, resubmission, etc. However, this is one step on the road.
I opened a bottle of Shiraz this evening. And in a bit, I'll hit the Ben & Jerry's.
Am feeling pretty pleased with stuff atm, though rather bone-tired and not really able to get properly excited as I know that the PhD journey is still far from over.
Also, I need a job.

Date: 31 Mar 2010 11:38 (UTC)Just for the sake of it, I weighed my thesis before going for hard binding, so I can imagine your rucksack was *very* empty by the time you left. Hope you can empty your mind and relax over Easter. When will you hear back about those grants?

Date: 31 Mar 2010 12:30 (UTC)LOL I know my arms were not impressed with the weight (especially cos the nearest thesis binders to us is in Holloway Road, so I'd had to lug 750 pages of thesisness through rush hour Tube on Monday morning in a spare Veg Box!). But they're happy happy now!
I hear about the current grant application in October. I'll put in some more over summer but won't hear back from them till spring 2011 I suspect. A one year postdoc to fill the time would be perfect, methinks!
