Parents due here at 5pm :) Had to explain to them that no, Cambridge doesn't do bank holidays, therefore both we and the lecturers have to work on Monday. They think it's a travesty. Except my dad, who takes every opportunity to tease me and claim I should be working harder. Parents...

Date: 2 May 2004 13:03 (UTC)Well, if looking at the way we tend to count, Sunday would be the last day. In cultures with Christian influence, it's the day God rested, also the last day... however, here in Germany, Wednesday is called "Mittwoch" meaning 'middle of the week'. That would be the fourth out of seven days, which only works if you count Sunday as the first day.
Anyway, let's just be happy there *is* a Sunday, even if it's not sunny... Mainly because it's free. ^_^ And as I proved right now, you can use that time to give silly answers to questions that don't really need answering... *giggles*
Hope you have a good day, even without holidays!

Date: 2 May 2004 17:06 (UTC)I always thought counting sunday as the first day of the week was to do with thect christianity comes from judaism. As in Jews are the ones who actually have their sabbath on the last day of the week (saturday) whereas christian types switched the day off to Sunday becasue that was the day of the resurection. So we really have the first day of the week off. Whcih I think is kinda cool... start the week how you mean to go with a big holiday!
