Unbelievably, I'm actually enjoying this caveman and primate-related human evolution anthropology-type stuff. It's all very interesting, all this business with signing chimps, Theory of Mind and whether cave paintings can be taken as a reliable indicator that a group of cavemen is using verbal language. Of course, my brain still objects logically on the grounds that it's all terribly terribly subjective, and unlike developmental biology, transcription factors or biochemical pathways, it's almost impossible to measure or quantify accurately. But it's interesting, nonetheless.
Meanwhile, possibly inspired by
lifes_a_dream and other such determined and industrious personages, I am planning to do proper work for the first time this term. This is likely to involve an associated decrease in time spent on LJ/MSN/AIM/Y! other such internetomatic activities, which pains me deeply, but is hopefully justified by the fact that without work, a new laptop in summer is not going to happen, whereas with work, there is a distant but possible chance of such a fortuitous eventuality.
This also means less time for fics - reading, writing or betaing. Aside from the ones I've already committed to, I think I'll avoid taking on anything new until after exams. Which is a pity, but is 'sensible' I suppose.
Managed 8 hours' sleep last night. Funny how, as a result, lectures and supervisions today actually seemed interesting. Cue another phase of me insisting that sleep is the cure for everything, a phase which will last right up until the next time I'm talking to someone until 2am. Which is not going to happen in the immediate future, of course, because I am reducing spodding time in favour of revsion.
Yesterday I coached my supervisor on the correct pronunciation of 'lionesses' (not lee-on-iss-is-iss), 'Bishop-Cannings Theorem' and 'mutant'. I'll have him fluent in English in a matter of weeks at this rate. *applauds supervisor*
