Antichrist-mas day
26 December 2003 14:07Today have opened presents intended for opening yesterday. These, it emerges, include: tarragon, chilli powder, oregano, a measuring jug, socks (am I the only person who actually likes getting socks as a pressie?), some disturbingly overpowering eau de toilettes from my godparents and... a mobile phone.
It was inevitible. Finally, I have succumbed and people will be able to contact me at any hour of the night or day.
It's no really big deal - I'm getting one of my parents' spares, and have been given a choice. Do I want:
1. Nokia brick - bricks being, as I understand it, a high-fashion accessory amongst students, as well as being less of a thief-magnet on trams, buses etc?
2. Nokia 6150 - smaller, more compact and generally more practical, also have longer battery life, but less of a statement?
Cast your votes now! (I'd hold a poll, but that means I have to get a paid account, and I value my precious money).
My brother is outside getting very excited with a crowbar and a large spanner...
...
He was given the task of smashing up our old and rusty BBQ into tiny tiny bits, prior to taking it to local tip for disposal. This family goes through those cheapo self-assembled BBQs at a rate of 1-2 per year.

Date: 26 Dec 2003 06:16 (UTC)I'll phone u or something - I'm not posting it here cos this is a public journal and I'd quite like to keep some teeny bits of anonymity wrt The World At Large (OK, I'm paranoid, having heard way too many stories of peep getting raped, beaten, murdered and otherwise abused after giving out personal details on the net).

Date: 26 Dec 2003 10:53 (UTC)Fashion aside, go for a brick! They're hard to lose, even small phones are too large to carry in a pocket, and in a pinch you can bash your assailant's brains out with them.

Date: 27 Dec 2003 14:04 (UTC)Now I am not going to argue on terms of portability, style or fashion accessoryness. I'm going to argue on features:
Longer Battery Life - Suprising useful once you get used to carrying one of these things (which will happen, given time)
Text Messaging - Often an irritating feature, especially with younger siblings who believe it to be the one true way to spell. However being able to send and recieve 255 character messages for 10p a go is occasionally very useful. Think of it as an emergency ICQ or MSM.
Now if both phones offer adequate cover on both features then go for whichever you prefer. I prefer slimline as it's easier to carry around (backpack, pocket or even pencil case work) but that's more a personal style choice thing.
Mine is a 3310 and I regard that as slimline if that helps.
