Of Eluréd and Elurín

Today Rivvie referred me to a fic by Erik (that's Orchyd's husband, I believe). Twas short, an Eluréd/Elurín, well-written and rather touching. I'd never seen it in my life before and was, up until now, unaware of its existence.

Unfortunately, my initial reaction was, "Buggershit!"

Reason: the beginning proceeds in a very, very similar way to my own Eluréd/Elurín. Shorter, yes, and not identical by any means. But still, very similar. Obviously, he's almost definitely never seen my fic, and I'd never seen his, and the progression of events is the only logical way you could justify Eluréd/Elurín slash.

Trouble is, if I publish my Eluréd/Elurín...well, anywhere...the odds are that I'll be accused of plageurism. Which is a pity, cos I really enjoy writing All I Have Left, and I'm certainly not going to abandon it.

So I guess I'll just have to finish it and not publish it, just send it to people who want to read it.

If you think the other says everything you were going to say, there may be nothing to do. But yours is more full - if there's anything else good in it, then both have their place.

Oh dear Eni!

I'm always afraid that something like that might happen to me and worse, with some fic I haven't even read or I can't remember and have not the chance to do something about it. That's awful, you poor thing. *hugs Eni*

I agree both with crazica an cartesiandaemon. Maybe you could take this to Erik and both of you come to an understanding. He seems like a very nice open person from the little I have seen of his LJ. As for evil comments by people that do not know you, forget them. Don't be afraid, your friends would never think that you plagiarize and you have enough work that's undoubtedly yours to prove how good and original you are.

I saw that fic pop up a bit ago on the Melethryn mailing list, and I thought, "Damn, just when I thought Eni was the only one with the idea." This was AFTER you had told me about yours and I had read some. Anyway, I'm sure you could prove your case (if you needed to) by going through the Melethryn ML archives and comparing them to your first post about your fic in your Xanga journal.

There are tons of Glorfindel/Erestor fics out there that are almost alike, and who knows what else, to the point where I can't really distinguish one from the other in my mind. I don't think it would be a big deal.

And besides, I am going to archive that damn fic in my new site, dammit! XD *shakes fist*
