Cold is the cold world
Grey is the grey sky
Wet is the wet road
Dry is the clear eye
-paraphrase of poem from The Wizards and the Warriors by Hugh Cook, with references to sea removed as, living multiple miles inlad, sea ia a largely irrelevant issue in my life. Can recommend Hugh Cook - his books are bloody hard to get hold of (except on Amazon) but are very original, cynical and funny; not your average fantasy yarn at all.
I take back all my pleas to the world which I squealed out now some days past. Ezra's Persian Kitty is not dead, has not disappeared, and has not changed her name and moved to Mexico. It appears she's been writing a longish but bloodly brilliant fic called Feral Form, which is now available in the Libray of Moria, contains my all-time fave pairing (Glor/Eres) and is extremely good. Woohooo, four-day-weekend!
Have been reading too much Peter Morwood, and so decided to field-test the traditional hairstyle he describes for highborn kailin-eir (noblemen-knight-types). Have found that the 'ear-braids' which hang down, one on either side of face, are incredibly impractical and flop all over your face when you're eating, reading or doing anything. Don't believe any real warrior would ever do his hair like that. Damn good books, though.
Will resist temptation not to take any more naff quizzes today. *strangled sounds* Must...resist...must...not...succumb...to...temptation...

Date: 28 Dec 2003 10:29 (UTC)Sorry, obv didn't make that clear. Peter Morwood's /Horse Lord/ series is all humans (plus dragons, demons and other nasties). No elves, just long-haired (and v. cute) highborn snobs who get as worked up over their hair's cultural significance as Jackie Chan was in Shanghai Noon.
