6 August 2004 00:13LJ client being a pig, so I get to update on the site, yay!
Right, so...OK, it could be many things: sleep deprivation, eating funny, not getting out enough, my conscience getting at me for too much procrastination, or the progesterone in my butt. But whatever, I'm a bit up an down at the moment, crying, happy, sad, stressed, angry, happy, weird, happy. Still, happy remains dominant, so I'm OK.
Went riding. Rode Platinum for a change. Been a while since I rode her - since the last time she's gone from grey to nearly fleabitten grey, and is getting cataracts. Still, very much her usual self - i.e. took a lot of firm riding to get her to co-operate, and never did get a good outline from her. Thunderstorm; instructor worried about getting hit by lightning. Owing to the large number of tall and/or metal buildings nearby, I did not.
Instructor suggested I was riding with my stirrups too long (she was right) so I put them up. But the next time it was my turn to canter, everything was going great till...
Well, you see, Platinum currently has mismatched stirrups on her saddle. One is a normal one, but the right one is a safety stirrup. These have the metal bar on the outside replaced by something like a very thick rubber band, so if you get thrown it pops off and you don't get dragged along with one foot caught in the stirrup. Trouble is, this one popped off while was still firmly in the saddle, and naturally disappeared into the grass/sand at that edge of the school. Without the rubber band, the stirrup becomes silly and useless. So I crossed both my stirrups over Platinum's neck in front of the saddle and rode without (which I secretly prefer anyway). THEN the instructor says: "Right, we're going to canter again, but this time, put your reins in your right hand and place your left hand on your chest." So I got the fun of riding with no stirrups and one hand. OTOH it worked altogether pretty well and I was in control. Most amusing.
Got caught in incredibly heavy rain coming home. Stood under a tree for a bit, but then decided I may as well just go home, so I did.
Hopped into shower, came out and snuggled into PJs at 9pm, and spodded from thenon :D
