About to start chasing Evensham re. new laptop (no word on it yet). Website says 'order being processed'...

Went out to lunch with dad/brother. We ended up an Old Orleans. Very nice meal but I ate too much. And since the Pud Crawl at the end of Lent Term (where I went through 3 servings of dessert, then went back through those three servings a little while later, in reverse order, in the toilets) I see to have developed aversive behaviour to hot chocolate fudge brownie sundae. And felt distinctly queasy as we left the restaurant. Returned to restaurant loos, but thankfully was not sick this time.

Oh, latest news from brother:
Brother: "Someone's signed me up to match.com, which is a dating website."
Me: *laughing*
Brother: "I keep getting e-mails about eligible gays in my area."
Poor child. I think one of his schoolfriends might be having a joke...

Dad's rowing club seems to have a problem for the upcoming regatta. They need a coxless quad scull for a race. The trouble is, there is only one coxless boat at the club light enough to race. And that one can't be unscrewed and split in half down the middle. Which is a problem because they can't find anyone to tow the big boat trailer, so any boats going to the regatta will have to go down on the roofs of people's cars. So the conclusion is to get a coxed boat, remove the rudder, and race in that, hoping that the straight course will allow them to steer entirely by altering how hard they're rowing (coxless boats normally have a foot-pedal that the bow rower can use to control the rudder, whereas coxed boats have the rudder controlled from the cox's seat).

If they can keep theboat straight for the duration of the course, they may actually be at an advantage, because rudders create drag, and they'll have removed the rudder (as, if it got knocked to one side by water currents during the race, they would be unable to correct it) => less drag. Still, it all sounds like it's heading for a bizarre and hilarious disaster. Espcially as, whatever boat they finally choose, it will be a four (rowing boat, each rower having one oar) rather than a quad (sculling boat, each rower having two oars) that's been rerigged to take two oars per person. So they'll never have sculled in it before, and may find the riggers/sides/seats are all wring for sculling...

Very rainy. The bottom of my brother's giant hole has turned into a small mud-pond, which is proving popular with the frogs, except that once they go in the hole, they can't get out. So I found that the hole today contained 7 medium to large frogs, all looking somewhat bewildered. He's made a little frog-ramp for them to get out now.

Hope you're feeling better soon! THREE dessert?!?! Blurg.

Why, again, has your brother dug an enormous hole in the yard?

Thank you :)

Erm...I'm not entirely sure. He has a thing for digging holes (did one last year). I guess he just...wanted to. Keeps him happy, I guess. Although my mother was none too happy when she realised he'd buried some of her plants in the process!
