I got the urge to make chapatis today.

So I bought 1.5kg of chapati flour, but decided ghee was a bit too over-keen. Then printed myself off a recipe that I could totally ignore and got cracking.

They're not very circular and look sort of halfway between chapatis, naans and pitta bread. The one I've tasted was a bit undersalted, but that's me - I always undersalt dough cos I'm not used to cooking with much/any salt and forget that bread things actually need salt in.

But they look kind of cool and the taste with curry all over them will be great.

And making them was sooooo much fun, woowoo.

In other news, I have Port.

You can very easily make ghee-substitute by yourself.

How to make Ghee At Home?

Ingredients:
Pure unsalted Butter (not margarine)

Procedure:

Heat butter in a saucepan in high-medium heat until it boils or bubbles.
Reduce heat to medium-low and cook uncovered until butter turns to a clear golden color. (Butter usually begins to boils with lots of bubbles. When it is done, it will have foams on top of it indicating that ghee is nearly done.)
Cool it and store it in dry container. Use ghee in you regular cooking.

If this was something you already knew, I apologise for butting in :) Also for invading your lj. Got here through Fim's :)

Oh wow! Thank you! No, I didn't know that - I wasn't totally sure how ghee was made and assumed it was less straightforward than that. That's fantastic! *will have to try*

They're Indian flatbreads. Traditionally they're meant to be a bit like floury, less rubbery tortillas, and you pull off bits and use them to scoop up curry. The way I made them, they're not much like tortillas at all! They look a bit like when they're done properly. I should photo one of mine for comparion, LOL! Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! :)

I got a gift from you today, and it is so wonderful I had tears in my eyes! :) If this isn't the best Pingi story ever, I don't know what is! (And simply perfect for me! ^_^) I have heard of Roy and Silo before, but I never knew they turned their story into a book! And the paintings of the Pingis are soo, soo, SOO cute!

As for being a late birthday gift - I was grumpy and annoyed all day, and you single-handedly changed that and made me beam. I think it was perfect timing! :)

Thank you soooo much, Eni! *hugs tightly*

PS: Oropher says thankyou too. Mari actually does too, but Oropher and I just let her look at the pictures and distracted her from the text. Though, you know... I can so see Faffin getting the book for his yet to be born grandchild! ^_^

Yes, I saw it and thought that it must have been written with you in mind, and when I showed it to Tux she advised me that you needed it! We both thought it was a lovely, heartwarming story. :)

I'm so glad you liked and yay that it cheered up your day! I was getting a bit worried as I mailed it over a week ago and hoped it hadn't got lost in the post, so I'm glad it arrived eventually.

*hugs the Elves as well*

And Faffin thinks that's a lovely idea. He is ordering it already!
